The present study discusses about the information use pattern of Indian Geneticists. The study found that journals are heavily cited as compared to other forms of documents. It is evident from the study that the trend is towards team research. Multi authors lead over single author. United States contributes more number of articles in this subject. Around 48% of the journals cited are from United States. It is observed from the study that more number journals cited are of the period between 1996 and 2000 followed by 2001-2006 and 1990-1995. Therefore it can be deduced that current literature is more important for research in this subject field. It is observed from the study that „Genetics‟ is the most heavily cited journal followed by „Science‟, both are from United States. The Indian journal, Journal of Genetics is in the 14th place. Literature as old as 174 years have also been cited.

In this paper an attempt has been made to study the Growth pattern, doubling time of world and Indian Genetics literature. The Knowledge of Genetics being basic to progress in biology, agriculture, medicine, biotechnology, forensic sciences and many other fields, results of such studies are found highly useful. There are several dimensions of national science indicators that can be used to study different aspects of the research output in the field of Genetics and its ten subfields. Branch wise contribution indicates maximum growth in the branch of Human Genetics with the major contribution of 3,87,605 publications during this block period,(1993-2002) followed by Molecular Genetics (3,87,

Objective: To assess the impact of genetic counseling in Indian milieu. Methods: A study of 83 Indian consultands who were provided genetic counseling was carried out to understand their expectations, satisfaction with genetic counseling and its effects on reproductive decision. Results: Most of the families were referred for the diagnosis and the treatment of the disorder in the proband. The consultands understood the medical facts about risk of recurrence and were satisfied with genetic counseling. There was no change in reproductive plan after genetic counseling in most of the cases. Conclusion: The reproductive decision was mainly correlating with the presence or absence of normal live children in the family and availability of prenatal diagnosis.

Objective: This study analyzes the research activities of India in biomedicine during 2012– 2016, based on the total publication output, its growth rate, quality of papers published and rank of India in the global context. Patterns of international collaborative research output and the major partner institutions of India are also discussed. This study also evaluates the research performance of different types of Indian biomedical and research foundations and the characteristics of published literature in Indian and foreign journals. It also analyzes the medical research output by disease and organs. Materials and Methods: The publication data on biomedicine has been retrieved by using Web of Science (WoS) database. Results: total number of 2712 publications as indexed in web of science database during 2012-2016. The results show that there insignificant growth in Biomedicine literature published from India. It may be researcher, institutions or India’s collaboration with other countries, in all aspects considerable growth can be observed Conclusion: High quality research in India is grossly inadequate and requires strategic planning, investment and resource support. There is also a need to improve the existing biomedical education system, which should foster research culture.
